Similarly and for some time now, PFM’s or “porcelain fused to metal” crowns have been the standard when a full coverage tooth restoration is necessary. But now, dental crowns made of all porcelain, all ceramic, Zirconia, and E-max materials have proven to be durable and more aesthetically pleasing. With these crowns there is no dark line or shadow at the gum line resulting in a far more natural and life like appearance.
What is a Zirconia Crown?
Stronger than a traditional porcelain crown, a Zirconia crown is made from a material known for it’s strength and durability. Zirconia is a long-lasting and virtually indestructible form of crystal, which is compatible with the human body and is used in many other medical applications including artificial joints because there is very little concern about an allergic reaction or being rejected by the body.
The Zirconia crowns are translucent and blend in well with other teeth and Dr. Azimi doesn’t have to remove as much of the original tooth in preparation for this type of crown.
What is an E-Max Crown?
Considered a breakthrough in dental crown technology, this type of crown is made from a single block of lithium disilicate ceramic which is a material known for its strength, durability and opaque qualities. They are strong, long lasting, and with no metal alloy base, there is no gray line along the gum line. The transparent color and shape of the E-max crown are the reasons they are considered to be the best match with your own natural teeth.
To support Dr. Azimi’s efforts in providing all of his patients with the best possible care, he has decided to discontinue using PFM “porcelain fused to metal” when a full coverage crown is needed.
